TICONDEROGA — Walter Eric Hunsdon, 100 years and 11 months, of Putts Pond Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at the Moses-Ludington Hospital in Ticonderoga.
He was born in Chilson, Jan. 14, 1906, the son of Frederick Goodnow Hunsdon and Lena Emily (Phillips) Hunsdon. He was a member of the Chilson Methodist Church. He was the last member of the original Chilson Black Sox baseball team.
Walter and Maria settled on their farm in 1933. They celebrated their 70th anniversary in 2003. Most of their years together were spent on their homestead. Walter purchased a Model A Ford bus in Buffalo in 1934 and delivered local children to their district schools for several years. He joined International Paper Co. in 1945 and retired in 1968. He also drove a dump truck for several years. Walter enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball and card games and most of all "time with his family."
He is survived by his 10 children, Lorraine E. Heagen, William and Joan Hunsdon, John and Heidi Hunsdon, Roselena Evens and fiancÃ© Ron Quattrocchi, Fred and Sylvia Hunsdon, Dennis and Mary C. Hunsdon, Simeon and Linda Hunsdon, Edna and Richard Newell, Robert and Mary L. Hunsdon, and Linda Tausinger; two great-nephews, Allen and Bruce Hall; many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Maria Hunsdon; sister and brother-in-law, Ethel and John Moody; three sons-in-law, Paul Heagen, Gerald Evens and Daniel DeLair; and two grandchildren.
Relatives and friends may call from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry, N.Y. A funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Chilson Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Chilson Fire Department, or to the Resident's Council at the Heritage Commons Nursing Home. Ticonderoga, N.Y.
