Sodexho leading drive to fight hunger PDF Print E-mail

PLATTSBURGH — Sodexho Campus Services at Plattsburgh State has challenged its employees and the campus community to work together in the fight against hunger through its annual Servathon, April 9 to 13.
This year's theme is "Stop Hunger: Making a Difference."
Participants in the program will be collecting food for the Interfaith Food Shelf. As part of the food drive, there will be two competitions — one among the residence halls and another among campus offices — for the group who raises the highest monetary value in food.
The residence hall that raises the most will receive 15 pizzas and 10 two-liter bottles of soda. Residence halls in second and third place will get 10 pizzas and six two-liter bottles of soda and seven pizzas and four two-liter bottles of soda, respectively.
The winning campus office will receive a catered lunch from Campus Dining Services.
The second part of the Servathon will be a raffle to raise funds for the Trinity Church community meal center. The center does not receive grants and relies on funds from initiatives such as this to survive.
The Sodexho employee who sells the most raffle tickets will receive a free dinner to a local restaurant and two movie passes, donated by local businesses.
Amy Rascoe, unit clerk in Clinton Dining Hall and the Servathon chairperson, said the program, which started about six years ago, has a dual goal.
"The Servathon helps our community by giving back to those in need," Rascoe said in a news release. "It also helps build team spirit among those who are participating in the program around the campus and in the community.
"Last year, we exceeded the funds raised in the previous year and the goal we had set for ourselves. I am excited to see what will happen this year."
Another event planned connected to this year's Servathon is the Have a Heart sale on Monday, April 9. Paper hearts will be sold for $1 each at all campus dining facilities and will be displayed in the dining areas. Later that evening, the Campus Dining staff will help prepare and serve dinner at St. Peter's soup kitchen.
The food drive will kick off on Monday, April 9. Offices and residence halls can arrange for pickup by calling 564-4093. The deadline for receiving items for the food drive is 4 p.m. Monday, April 16.
On Wednesday, April 11, a dessert social will be held in the Cardinal Lounge from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. A variety of Green Mountain Coffees and gourmet desserts will be available all for $3. That same evening, the staff will help prepare and serve dinner at Trinity Church's community meal.
Friday, April 13, will be Buy a Jean Day. To benefit the Trinity meal, Campus Dining Service's employees can donate $5 in order to wear jeans to work.
