Foundation of CVPH scholarship forms due

The Auxiliary Distributions Committee of the Foundation of CVPH Medical Center is offering nine scholarships to local high school seniors. Each scholarship (one at each participating high school) of $750 will be awarded to a graduating senior who is pursuing a career in health care including nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, etc.
Application forms can be obtained from high school guidance counselors. They must be completed in their entirety and received by the Auxiliary Scholarship Committee no later than April 2. For more information, contact the Foundation of CVPH Medical Center, 562-7169.

Spring Fling on tap at Cultural Center

PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Cultural Center for the Arts is offering its Spring Fling April 9-13 at 30 Brinkerhoff St.
Spring Fling will incorporate painting, theatre, digital photography and guitar/keyboarding for all students enrolled.
Each full-week session is $75 and includes all materials and a community reception from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 14.
A few scholarships are still available for students meeting the eligibility requirements based on family income.

Orientation held for foster parents

PLATTSBURGH — An orientation and informational meeting for prospective foster/adoptive and respite parents will be held on Tuesday, April 17. Orientation will be at the Clinton County Department of Social Services, 13 Durkee St., Plattsburgh, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. All are welcome and there is no commitment.
Clinton County Department of Social Services Model Approach to Partnership in Parenting (MAPP) training for prospective foster/adoptive and respite parents is scheduled to start Tuesday, April 24. Call 565-3320 to confirm attendance or to obtain more information.

Retired teachers offer scholarships

PLATTSBURGH — The Champlain Valley Council of Retired Teachers has announced the 2007 Jane Boswell Memorial Scholarship. The group is offering a $500 scholarship to two seniors attending a public high school in Clinton County, Essex County or Saranac Lake who plan to go into the teaching profession.
Students should go to their high-school guidance counselors for a scholarship application and information.
Include your name, home address, high school and the college you plan to attend. Three character references are required, one from a faculty member, one from a successful community member and one of your choice.
Also include a list of extracurricular and community activities and an essay of at least 150 words but no more than 250. The essay should include why you want to teach or what motivated you to become a teacher, an explanation for the need for this scholarship and why you chose the college that you would like to attend.
