FREDONIA — The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) will honor Peter Luguri of Plattsburgh State at its annual awards banquet to be held Monday, May 14, at the Embassy Suites in Syracuse.Luguri will receive the Dr. Patrick R. Damore Distinguished Service Award for his numerous years of commitment to the conference.Liguri graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh with a BA degree in Secondary Education/English. He taught and coached baseball, girls' basketball and girls' soccer in Willsboro for six years while working toward his MA in Education. After his tenure in Willsboro, he became the Director of the Upward Bound Program at SUNY Plattsburgh, as well as an Adjunct Professor of English at Clinton Community College.In 1987, Luguri became the Director of Athletics at SUNY Plattsburgh, while still serving as the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs (a position he held for the three previous years). His tenure as athletic director lasted through 1997, but resumed again in August 1998 after a year as the Associate Provost for Student Affairs.Luguri left his athletic director position in April 2004, but retained his position as Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs until his retirement in January 2007.Luguri served as SUNYAC President in 1994-95 and 2002-03, the chair of the Men's Sports Committee in 1991-92 and 1992-93, and the chair of Finance Committee in 1993-94.He also was a member of the Chancellor's SUNY-wide Task Force on Student Life in 1993-94.
