Missie Leitl has been commissioned to the rank of ensign in the nurse corps of the U.S. Navy in Lemoore, Calif. She was commissioned from the rate of aviation structural mechanic, first-class petty officer.
Leitl, who has been stationed at Naval Air Station Lemoore for seven years, has been in the Navy for 14 years.
She lives with her husband, Daniel Leitl, who is also in the Navy, and their children, Douglas and Kaitlyn Leitl.
Before entering California State University Fresno's nursing department through a highly selective Navy program in 2004 called the Medical Enlisted Commission Program, Leitl had worked as an aviation structural mechanic. On Jan. 20, she left Lemoore for Officer Indoctrination School in Newport, R.I.
Her next set of orders will land her in Jacksonville, Fla., where she will work at the Naval Hospital.
Leitl will return to Naval Air Station Lemoore next June to serve as retirement officer in a ceremony to retire her husband of 12 years, Daniel, who has been in the Navy for 20 years.
Leitl was born in Saranac Lake and is the daughter of Curtis and Lynda Burl of Keeseville.
Army Pfc. Melanie A. Ogburn has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
She is the granddaughter of Frank Witkowski of Saranac Lake. Ogburn received an associate degree in 2003 from Tacoma Community College, Wash.
Air Force Airman Stacey K. Golden has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
She is the daughter of Barbara Golden of Morrisonville and Thomas Golden of Keeseville and is a 2006 graduate of Beekmantown Central High School, West Chazy.
Army Reserve Sgt. Travis P. La Pier has returned to the United States after being deployed to an overseas forward-operating location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
La Pier, a food-service sergeant, is assigned to the 943rd Replacement Detachment, Fort Totten, Flushing. He has served in the military for five years.
He is the son of Wayne La Pier of West Chazy and Alicia A. Gadway of Plattsburgh and is a 2001 graduate of Beekmantown High School, West Chazy.
Air Force Airman Amanda L. Mosher has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
Mosher is the daughter of Aaron E. Glasgow of Lake Placid and Kimberly D. Zagst of Wilmington.
Air Force Airman Scott A. Johnson has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
He is the son of Scott Johnson Sr. of Fort Edward and Lucinda Bapp of Saranac.
Michael Barcomb assumed command of the 325th Military Intelligence Battalion on March 4, 2007, at the BG Middleton Army Reserve Center in Windsor, Conn.
He is the son of Roland and Bernice Barcomb of Mooers.
Barcomb graduated from Northeastern Clinton Central High School in Champlain. He later attended the College of Saint Rose, Albany, where he received an active-duty commission as a military intelligence officer.
After completing the officer basic course at Fort Huachuca, Ariz., Barcomb was assigned as the projects officer for the Army Intelligence School, located at Fort Devens, Mass.
Barcomb later joined the Army Reserve in 1990, where he took on a succession of challenging assignments: platoon leader, executive officer, information systems officer, and Army senior service representative.
He was later deployed as Combined Joint Intelligence systems officer in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Barcomb resides in Massachusetts with his wife and two children.
