SOS grant requests are due by May 24

WESTPORT — Artists living in the counties of Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton, Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence may apply for Strategic Opportunity Stipends (S.O.S.) grants of up to $600 through the Arts Council for the Northern Adirondacks.
Artists in all disciplines of the arts may apply; literary, music, visual, dance, media arts and theatre. The deadline for opportunities taking place in July through October is May 24.

High school art exhibition opens

PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Cultural Center for the Arts' 2007 High School Juried Art Exhibition will hold its opening Saturday, April 21, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Friends, families and community are all invited to experience 2D and 3D works from area school districts.
Nine districts competed last year in sculpture, drawing, painting, photography, graphic design and printmaking.

Hildreth wins Cover Art contest

WESTPORT — The Arts Council for the Northern Adirondacks has selected Sandra Hildreth as the Cover Art Award Winner for her oil painting piece titled "High on the Oswegthie."
This year more than 90 pieces were submitted for jurying; 53 were selected and 22 pieces were donated by the artists for the Silent Auction.
Best in Show was awarded to Tim Fortune from Saranac Lake for his oil painting, "Reflection Abstraction." Best in Show-Photograph was awarded to Steve Auger of Malone for his piece titled "Whiteface Mountain."

LPCA offers trip to Cirque Du Soleil

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid Center for the Arts is sponsoring a trip to Old Town Montreal for Cirque Du Soleil 2007 on Sunday, June 17.
The trip price is $125 for adults and $105 for kids under 12. The price includes: group discounted tickets to Cirque Du Soleil 2007, transportation to and from Montreal and a light evening snack on the return trip.
There is limited seating available. April 17 is the deadline to confirm tickets with Cirque, and the LPCA reserves the right to cancel the trip in the event of insufficient interest.
