Adam Roberts caps brilliant career: 3-time sectional champ named CVAC Wrestler of Year PDF Print E-mail

PLATTSBURGH — Beekmantown senior standout Adam Roberts has made a sweep of honors on the 2006-07 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Wrestling All-Star Team,
Roberts, who won his third Section VII title this season (his first at 171 pounds), leads the list of 15 wrestlers on the First Team.
In addition, Roberts, who compiled a 137-30 career record, was chosen as the Wrestler of the Year by the coaches in the league and also as Sportsman of the Year as selected by the wrestling officials in the CVAC.
Coach of the Year honors, as selected by their peers, went to Peru co-head coaches Gary Edwards and Mike Hogan. The two coaches helped guide the Indians to the CVAC championship this season.
Beekmantown had six wrestlers on the All-CVAC First Team — Peter Avellaneda (103), Matt Witkowski (119), Andy Anderson (125), Joey Roberts (130), Josh Nephew (160) and Adam Roberts (171).
Peru and Northern Adirondack were next with four apiece.
Representing the Indians were Arik Robinson (96), Bryan Bonville (152), Peter Baker (215) and Ryan Stacey (275).
NAC wrestlers on the First Team included James Filion (112), Brandon LaBombard (140), James Charland (145) and Josh Trombley (189).
The First Team is rounded out by Saranac's Charles Beshaw (135).
Robinson (fourth place), Avellaneda (fifth), Beshaw (fourth), Adam Roberts (fifth) and Trombley (fourth) all placed at the NYSPHSAA Championships this season.
Highlighting the All-CVAC Second Team is AuSable Valley's Dustin Frederick at 275.
Frederick and Stacey each went 7-1 in CVAC action this year, with each defeating the other.
Frederick, a junior, defeated Stacey for the Section VII championship and then went on to finish first in the state.
The Wrestling Official of the Year, as chosen by the league coaches, was awarded to Billy Jo Manor.
