WILMINGTON — Whiteface will celebrate the Easter holiday weekend with its Annual Pond-skimming competition and Easter Celebration April 7-8.
The pond-skimming event will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 7 outside the base lodge area. It is a free event open to skiers and riders. Competitors will be judged on distance, splash, best costume and more. Registration will take place from 9-11:30 a.m.
"This is one of our more exciting and spectator friendly events of the year," said Whiteface marketing assistant Evan Spinosa.
"I've heard a couple of local celebrities will be making a special guest star appearance, skimming the pond using unconventional methods," added Bridget Hinman, Whiteface marketing manager. "Word on the street is that they are doing extensive equipment testing as we speak."
Whiteface also will host an Easter service, breakfast buffet and Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday, April 8. The non-denominational service will begin at 8 a.m. in the Ausable Room, followed by a breakfast buffet from 8:30-10:30 a.m. in the Lookout Café. The buffet includes eggs, bacon, sausage, carved honey glazed ham, waffle station with assorted fruit toppings, fresh pastries as well as hot and cold beverages. Cost is $14.95 for adults while kids 12 and under are $6.95.
The Whiteface Easter Egg Hunt begins at 11 a.m. for kids ages 7-12 and at noon for those 6 and under. More than 2,500 eggs will be scattered at Whiteface with the Golden Egg containing the special prize of a free junior (7-12) season pass for the 2007-2008 ski and ride season. For those 6 and under, the Silver Egg features a prize just for them.
The Whiteface Spring Thing Ticket is still available for just $99 for adults (20-64 years old), $79 for teens (13-19) and seniors (65-69) and $49 for juniors (7-12). The ticket allows skiers and riders unlimited spring skiing and riding until the end of the season, which is currently slated to be Sunday, April 15. Children 6 and under and adults 70 and over still get to ski and ride for free.
Daylight Skiing Time is still in effect and on Fridays and Saturdays, the Cloudsplitter gondola remains open until 4:30 p.m.
