ROUSES POINT — The Village of Rouses Point has continued participation in a rebate program for residents who buy qualified energy-efficient appliances and has now introduced a similar one for commercial users of the municipal electric system.
Both are through the Independent Energy Efficiency Program.
The Appliance Rebate Program for residents offers rebates of up to $1,000 on appliances labeled ENERGY STAR.
The deadline for application is Dec. 31, 2007.
The Village of Rouses Point Commercial Energy Efficiency Program offers rebates — also a maximum $1,000 — on installation of specific items, such as ENERGY STAR-labeled exit signs, hardwired compact fluorescent fixtures and fluorescent lamps. Pre-approval is required for projects costing more than $1,000.
The municipality itself has benefited from Independent Energy Efficiency Program offers, Mayor George Rivers said.
This year, at no cost to the taxpayer, the village installed two motors for chill pumps, variable-speed starters on compressors and other improvements at Rouses Point Civic Center.
"They're 96-percent efficiency," the mayor said.
Rebate applications are available at the Village Office, 139 Lake St.
