Tutor training in Mineville

MINEVILLE — A training session for prospective volunteer tutors will be held in Mineville at the Literacy Volunteers office. Help someone learn reading or math. Work with students with English as a second language on reading, writing, speaking and citizenship.
The training will begin Monday, April 16, and run one night per week for five weeks. All training materials, including two textbooks, are free.

Wee People Play Group canceled

PLATTSBURGH — The Wee People Play Group, held Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon at the Plattsburgh City Recreation Department Gym by Family Connections, will be canceled on Friday, April 13 and Friday, April 27 due to scheduling conflicts. All are welcome to come to play groups at Family Connections on 194 U.S. Oval on Friday, April 13 instead.
On Friday, April 27, much of the resource center staff will be at the Clinton County Health Department's Children's Health Fair at 133 Margaret St. from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring the kids and visit Family Connections' table.

NCCC offering several scholarships

SARANAC LAKE — North Country Community College has full scholarship funds available for the fall 2007 and spring 2008 academic school year.
NCCC, in cooperation with the Bruce L. Crary Foundation Inc., the Deo B. Colburn Education Foundation and the Lake Placid Education Foundation, will make money available for full-time adult students who are residents of Essex County and are beginning or continuing their college education.
The deadline for applying is Tuesday, May 15.
