SAVANNAH, Ga. — Olympic-style weightlifter and former Champlain resident Barbara Boyer set two records recently in the National Masters Weightlifting Championships.
Boyer, who now lives in Alburg, Vt., went 5-for-6 in her lifts and set national records for the snatch and clean & jerk, for a record total of 96 kilograms. In addition to winning a gold medal in her weight class, Boyer also won for best lifter in her age group.
At the awards banquet, Boyer received a special plaque for her 2006 Grand Slam achievement, which was winning a gold medal in each of the four major competitons in one year — the National, American, Pan-American and World Masters.
Her next planned competition will be the World Masters Championships in Hungary in August.
