MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Julieanne Mandy and Morgan Jordan each knocked in a run in the eighth inning Monday to give Ticonderoga a 2-0 win over Pulaski in the Grand Strand Softball Classic.
Under the international tiebreaker rules, the Sentinels started the eighth inning with a runner on second. Ariele Vilardo scored when Mandy led off with a single, and then Jordan's triple brought Mandy home.
Laura Olcott, who totaled 18 strikeouts and four walks, fanned three straight batters in the bottom of the inning to seal the win.
"We're happy with the win because Pulaski had gone to the sate final four last year," Ticonderoga coach Shannon Huntington said. "They're a quality team, and it was our first time outside. We played good defense."
Mandy went 2-for-3 on the day.
Pulaski threatened in the third inning, when Olcott hit a batter to load the bases with two outs. But Olcott retired the next batter to get out of the inning.
Pulaski's Alyssa Snyder struck out 15 in eight innings.
The Sentinels continue preliminary play today against Turpin, Ohio.
