GLENS FALLS — The Clinton Community College women's softball team didn't get the outcome it was looking for on its first road trip of the season.
Adirondack Community College won the first game, 20-1, and the second, 9-0, in a doubleheader sweep of the Cougars on Wednesday afternoon.
Adirondack C.C. wasted no time jumping on the Cougars, scoring seven runs in first inning. Adirondack's hits, combined with eight errors by the Cougars, led to the run rule being enforced after the fifth inning.
"The girls just didn't play defense today and we didn't hit the ball well either," Clinton C.C. head coach Amanda Deyoe said.
"We could have easily competed with them, but we struggled in the field and had a really off day. It just wasn't a good day for us."
Stephanie Brodi started and took the loss for the Cougars. Courtney Thomas' triple was the lone bright spot for the Cougars.
Gina Nassivera and Megan Rovelli led Adirondack's hit parade with three each.
Game 2 proved to be much of the same for the Cougars (0-4).
Brittany Sprague tossed a one-hit shutout in an impressive performance for Adirondack. Jess Gadway had the lone hit for the Cougars.
"Theie pitcher (Sprague) struck out seven and didn't walk anyone," Deyoe said. "She was much stronger than the first girl we faced and we just couldn't hit the ball."
Brodi took the loss for the Cougars. Clinton C.C. will look to get on the right track on Monday at home against Jefferson at 3 p.m.
