Final call for P-R coaching forms

PLATTSBURGH — The following spring coaching forms have yet to be received at the Press-Republican's sport department.
Previews will begin running on Sunday whether or not all team's coaching forms have been sent in.

Luge stars enter pond-skimming contest

WILMINGTON — Whiteface revealed Thursday the celebrity pond skimmers for Saturday's annual Pond Skimming Contest at the base of the mountain.
USA Luge's two-time Olympic medalists, Mark Grimmette and Brian Martin, have entered Saturday's competition. After what was described as "extensive equipment testing," the pair has modified a doubles luge sled, removing the steel runners and replacing them with ski jumping skis.
This year's pond-skimming competition will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, outside the base lodge area. This free event is open to skiers, riders and lugers and competitors will be judged on Distance, Splash, Best Costume and more. Registration will take place from 9-11:30 a.m. at Guest Services.

Girls' Tier 1 hockey tryouts set for May

TROY — The Troy-Albany Ice Cats Girls' Tier 1 ice-hockey program will hold tryouts for the 2007-08 season in May. The program is open to all girls. A USA release form will be required to compete. The fee will be $40.

Gordon McDonald Fun Run set for April 29

CHAZY — The Fourth-Annual Gordon McDonald Memorial Fun Run will be held Sunday, April 29, at Chazy Recreation Park. Race-day registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the race to start at 11:45 a.m.
The 5- and 10-kilometer courses are accurately measured and USATF certified. Entry fee is $10 for the one-mile fun and $15 for the 5K and 10K events. Awards will be given to the overall female and male winners and for the first three places in seven age groups.
Refreshments and food will be provided after the race. All proceeds will go to the Chazy Scholarship Fund.

Run with Nun scheduled for May 5

PLATTSBURGH — The Run with the Nun 5K and mile run will be held May 5. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with the race to start at 9:30 a.m. at the Base Oval.
Entry fee is $10 per person for the 5K, $25 per family of four, and $5 per person for the mile run. To register early, pick up a form at Seton Academy, Base gym or the YMCA.

Keeseville women's softball players needed

KEESEVILLE — The Keeseville Women's Medium-Pitch Softball League invites anyone interested in playing softball this summer to a registration session April 25, at 6:30 p.m., at the Keeseville V.F.W.

Golf tourney in Ashley MacDougal's memory

PLATTSBURGH — Meron's First-Annual Golf Tournament in memory of Ashley MacDougal will be held Saturday, June 16, at Bluff Point Golf Resort.
All proceeds from the 4-person scramble will be presented in Ashley MacDougal's memory to Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, in Colchester, Vt. The camp offers cancer-stricken children, ages7-17, with a tuition-free week of fun.
Entry fee is $20 for members and $55 for non-members. It includes golf, cart, raffle prizes, a hole-in-one prize, DJ services donated by Tim Hartnett and a cookout at Meron's.

Bowling tourney to aid Hough Racing Team

CHAMPLAIN — A singles tournament to benefit the Ben Hough Racing Team will be held tonight at Bowl Mart Lanes. It will consist of two games of regular bowling — one game 3-6-9 and one game 9-pin.
