WILMINGTON — Whiteface revealed Thursday the celebrity pond skimmers for Saturday's annual Pond Skimming Contest at the base of the mountain.USA Luge's two-time Olympic medalists, Mark Grimmette and Brian Martin, have entered Saturday's competition. After what was described as "extensive equipment testing," the pair has modified a doubles luge sled, removing the steel runners and replacing them with ski jumping skis.This year's pond-skimming competition will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, outside the base lodge area. This free event is open to skiers, riders and lugers and competitors will be judged on Distance, Splash, Best Costume and more. Registration will take place from 9-11:30 a.m. at Guest Services.
TROY — The Troy-Albany Ice Cats Girls' Tier 1 ice-hockey program will hold tryouts for the 2007-08 season in May. The program is open to all girls. A USA release form will be required to compete. CHAZY — The Fourth-Annual Gordon McDonald Memorial Fun Run will be held Sunday, April 29, at Chazy Recreation Park. Race-day registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the race to start at 11:45 a.m.The 5- and 10-kilometer courses are accurately measured and USATF certified. Entry fee is $10 for the one-mile fun and $15 for the 5K and 10K events. Awards will be given to the overall female and male winners and for the first three places in seven age groups.Refreshments and food will be provided after the race. All proceeds will go to the Chazy Scholarship Fund.
