Chamber mixer

PLATTSBURGH — Della Suzuki invites area business people to the Plattsburgh-North Country Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours on Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m. at Della Suzuki, right next to Della Honda.
Food will be catered by Anthony's Restaurant and a cash bar will be offered while attendees network and make new business contacts. Business After Hours is open to all chamber members and their employees. Not-yet members are encouraged to contact the Chamber for a special guest pass.
Admission is $3 with a reservation and $4 without. For more information, or to make reservations, call the chamber at 563-1000.


New appointment

PLATTSBURGH — The Lake Forest Senior Living Community Board of Directors and Interim Executive Director Sara Rowden have announced that Carmen Carpentier has been appointed to the position of executive director.
Carpentier has served as Housing and Service manager since construction begin in 1999. She is an honors graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh with a degree in Institutional Management and Nutrition, attended the Medical College of Pennsylvania and has years of experience in the hospitality industry. She is also enrolled in the University of North Texas's Department of Applied Gerontology to become a Certified Aging Services Professional.
Rowden will continue with Lake Forest as a consultant.


Conference attended

PLATTSBURGH — Peter Whitbeck, P.J. Whitbeck, Adam Whitbeck, Jack Murphy, Mary Fry, Mary Kay Penfield and Kerry Taylor with the Plattsburgh and Lake Placid offices of Coldwell Banker Whitbeck Associates recently spent three days at the Coldwell BankerInternational Business Conference at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev.
The annual event brought more than 6,000 Coldwell Banker sales associates, brokers, managers and employees together for an intensive professional-development program and awards ceremony. Tony Robbins, a recognized authority on the psychology of leadership, negotiations, organizational turnaround and peak performance was the conference's keynote speaker.
"The Coldwell Banker organization has a keen understanding of the wants and needs of today's home buyer and seller and much of the focus of this year's International Business Conference was to allow attendees to sharpen their skills so they can become even more successful," said Jim Gillespie, president and chief executive officer of Coldwell Banker Real Estate Corp. "The attendees visit the trade show, take courses, learn about the latest Coldwell Banker can offer them, and most importantly network with other real-estate professionals from various parts of the country and the world."
"The real estate market in Champlain Valley and Adirondack region is always evolving and the Coldwell Banker International Business Conference always gives us an opportunity to exchange ideas with other professionals and learn new ways to improve our customers' real-estate experience," Peter Whitbeck said.


Award received

PLATTSBURGH — American Honda Motor Co. Inc. has awarded Della Honda the 2006 Honda President's Award. This award is presented to the top 15 percent of Honda dealerships across the country that have achieved a rigorous set of objectives encompassing all areas of operations — customer service and satisfaction, facility operation, training and sales.
The President's Award is the highest honor bestowed on Honda dealerships. Annually, award criteria are modified to challenge dealerships to achieve new levels of customer satisfaction. More than 1,000 Honda automobile dealerships across the country participate in the program, with 170 earning this award for 2006. This is the ninth time that Della Honda has earned the President's Award.


Company changes

PLATTSBURGH — The management team at The Northeast Group in Plattsburgh has announced strategic growth changes to the company.
The day-to-day operation of the company is now under the guidance of the executive management team consisting of three senior officers: Mike Carpenter, vice president; Tim Matott, chief operating officer; and Betsy Vicencio, chief financial officer.
Effective March 1, Pete Tromblee assumed the role of production manager for the printing, mailing and IT Divisions and Ceil Garrow has assumed the management responsibilities for the Arizona Avenue fulfillment and distribution facility.
As long-term members of The Northeast Group, Tromblee and Garrow bring a wealth of experience and institutional knowledge to their new positions.
As IT systems manager for the past 12 years, Tromblee has been responsible for the development and implementation of company-wide software applications. In that capacity, he has worked closely with staff in the printing, mailing and fulfillment divisions to better understand the workings of those departments. His IT background and broad experience has enabled The Northeast Group to keep pace with ever-changing technology and offer more efficient and cost-effective service for clients.
Garrow has been with The Northeast Group for more than 28 years and has played an important role in developing each of the company's divisions. When the fulfillment and distribution services were originally established, Garrow played a significant role in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures. Now she will return to that division to provide management support for Northeast Group's fastest-growing facility.
The Northeast Group's core management team has also announced the appointment of Justine Jankowski to the team. In her role as director of sales and marketing, Jankowski will assist in the development and implementation of new marketing strategies. She will also serve as the primary liaison between clients and the operational team. Her diverse skill set will enable her to provide direct customer-service support to the printing and mailings clients and to broaden the company's ability to be a more pro-active and supportive business partner.


Hospice fund-raiser

PLATTSBURGH — Barbara Stansbury of Coldwell Banker Whitbeck Associates is helping to raise money for the expansion project of Helping Hands for Hospice of the North Country.
Hospice embraces all patients coping with advanced illnesses, focuses on comfort rather than care, emphasizes quality of life, promotes personal choice and individual dignity, and respects the traditions and wishes of the patient and the patient's family.
Hospice currently has the following needs for which contributions are needed:
Six-month lease expense for a new copier, a conference-room table, conference-room chairs, laptop computers, office chairs, gas cards to keep volunteers in the field, and gift cards to Staples.
Many small donations will help fill these needs. Contributors can make checks payable to Hospice of The North Country and indicate on the check which need they'd like the donation to go towards, or designate "most pressing need" if they have no preference.
Either mail or drop off donations to Coldwell Banker Whitbeck Associates, 20 Miller Street, Plattsburgh.
At the end of April, results will tallied and made available to contributors.
