Anxiety support group begins Wednesday

PLATTSBURGH — People dealing with an anxiety disorder are encouraged to join the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Champlain Valley's (NAMI: CV) Anxiety Education and Support Group. This great 8-week program will start on Wednesday, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Tammy Forget is the lead facilitator. Please call 561-2685 to register.


Kidney walk scheduled in Plattsburgh, Malone

PLATTSBURGH — To raise public awareness of the importance of early detection of kidney disease, the National Kidney Foundation is sponsoring the Kidney Walk, to be held in Plattsburgh on April 22 and Malone on May 20.
For more information, sponsor forms, or to register, call the NKF at 800-999-9697 or sign up online at www.nkfneny.org. On-site registration will also be accepted.


Alice Hyde prepares weight loss program

MALONE — Alice Hyde Medical Center (AHMC) will offer an 8-week Weight-Loss for Wellness program.
The program will promote gradual weight loss through calorie restriction, exercise and behavior change.
The program will run from May 2 to June 20 on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. in the Medical Center's new cafeteria conference room. All interested participants must be at least 18 years old and have a physician referral. Please check with your insurance provider for program coverage prior to enrolling.

NAMI offers suicide survivors support

PLATTSBURGH — In recognition of the emotional impact of suicide on families and communities, the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Champlain Valley (NAMI: CV) is starting a group for suicide survivors ages 18 years and older.
The first meeting of this new group is scheduled for Monday, April 30 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. For more information about the group and the meeting location, please contact Mary Anne Cox at 561-2685, ext. 12.


Brain tumor group holds first meeting

PLATTSBURGH — A new brain tumor support group, IC Hope 07, will hold its first public meeting Wednesday, 6-7:30 p.m., at the Newman Center, 90 Broad St.
This is a self-help group for survivors, family and caregivers.
