Clinton's Barnes earns more honors PDF Print E-mail

PLATTSBURGH — Philip Barnes continues to reap the rewards of a stellar season with the Clinton Community College men's basketball team.
The Cougars' co-captain has been named a First Team, National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-American. In addition, Barnes has been selected for the First Team, Basketball Coaches Association Of New York State All New York (BCANY) State Junior College.
Barnes also has been invited to NJCAA Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game in Kilgore, Tex. on Saturday. This event is sponsored by New Balance.
Barnes led the Cougars to their best season ever. Clinton won 20 games and reached the Final Four in NJCAA Region III.
He averaged 23.2 points, scoring 772 in 33 games. He surpassed 1,000 points for his career at Clinton.
Barnes was third on the team in rebounding, averaging 10.8 per game, and second in three-point shooting percentage at 50 percent. In free throw percentage he was ranked ninth with a 74.5 success rate.
"I am very happy to have had the opportunity to know and to coach Philip Barnes for the past two years," Clinton Coach Kevin Daugherty said. "His growth as a player has given me great satisfaction.
"The positive attention that he has brought to our basketball program and our College is immeasurable. Though Philip is a great athlete, I will always remember how polite, humble and unselfish he was."
