PLATTSBURGH — The 23rd version of the Mountain Lake PBS Arts Auction will offer 171 pieces of artwork donated by fine artists, craftspeople and collectors throughout New York, Vermont and the provinces of Quebec and Ontario.Proceeds will help fund programming and productions specific to the North Country region.Pieces range in value from $60 through $3,000, and will be available for bid only during live broadcasts on Friday, April 27 from 8 p.m. to midnight; Saturday, April 28 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.; and Sunday, April 29 from 7 to 11 p.m.Participants are encouraged to bid by attending the broadcasts at Mountain Lake PBS studios, 1 Sesame St., Plattsburgh, or by placing bids over the phone.To learn more, reserve an express bidder number, or be a part of the studio audience bidding, contact Mountain Lake PBS at 1-800-836-5700, ext. 127. JAY — Adirondack Life magazine has made profiles of people, past or present, the focus of its first writing contest.Writers are encouraged to tell the stories of forgotten Adirondackers, living or dead, using oral histories, interviews and personal observations.Entries must be unpublished, no more than 2,000 words and no fewer than 1,000, and postmarked by Sept. 1.The winner, determined by Adirondack Life's editorial staff, will be published in the December 2007 issue of the magazine and its writer will receive $500.Submissions, one per person (previous contributors to Adirondack Life are not eligible), must be sent, with a self-addressed stamped envelope, to Adirondack Life Writing Contest, Box 410, Jay, N.Y. 12941.
