ALBANY — Jenny Hutchinson, a senior member of the Plattsburgh State women's track and field team, has been selected for the Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence from the State University of New York system.
A graduate of Queensbury High School, Hutchinson is the only Plattsburgh State student-athlete among five campus representatives to be honored Wednesday during a special ceremony at the state capital.
Hutchinson carries a 3.78 cumulative grade-point average as a fine arts major. She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Omicron Delta Kappa honor societies. She also received the Provost's Award this spring.
She is a five-time school record-holder including 400-meter outdoor hurdles (1 minute and 5.53 seconds in 2004) and the pole vault — outdoor (10 feet, 11 inches in 2006) and indoor (10-81/4 in 2007).
A three-year team captain, Hutchinson has been named to the SUNY Athletic Conference Academic Team four times and a NCAA Division III All-America Scholar by the U.S. Track & Field Coaches Association.
She has served a term on the Intercollegiate Athletic Board and Student Athlete Advisory Committee for three years. Hutchinson has also participated in community service for SUNYAC Leaf Raking, Alzheimer's Walk, Katrina Relief and Special Olympics.
