RAY BROOK — Three inmates were injured Wednesday in a fight at the Federal Correctional Institute in Ray Brook.
The prison confirmed Thursday that an "incident" took place between inmates at the facility compound at about 11:44 a.m. Wednesday.
"Staff immediately responded to the scene and took control of the incident," FCI Ray Brook spokeswoman Debra Straight said in a statement issued Thursday.
"All inmates were recalled to the housing units, and the institution was placed on lockdown status."
Straight would not discuss the nature of the fight or specify where it occurred.
"Three inmates required outside medical attention, and, while responding to the incident, staff received minor injuries, which did not require outside medical attention."
Straight would not release the names of the inmates, the injuries sustained in the fight or their physical condition.
"There is no threat to the public safety, and the institution will remain on lockdown status pending the outcome of an investigation."
Straight said the incident remains under investigation.
