PLATTSBURGH — The Saranac baseball team got out of the gate early Friday afternoon.
The Chiefs scored eight runs in the top of the second and rolled to a 14-6 victory over Plattsburgh High School in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference non-league play at Lefty Wilson Field.
Nick Desroches hit a third-inning homer deep to left field for the Chiefs, and was the lone player from either team with two hits.
The Chiefs also took advantage of nine errors by the Hornets.
"We weren't very sharp today (Friday)," Plattsburgh head coach Jim Manchester said. "It is still early though, and the nice thing is that we have a chance to bounce back tomorrow and try to fix that."
Shawn Wood went the distance to get the victory, allowing seven hits, while Pat Shaughnessy took the loss.

PLATTSBURGH — Kayleigh McGovern hit three singles and struck out four batters in Beekmantown's 23-7 win over Plattsburgh High in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference girls' softball Friday afternoon.
Kelsie Bradish had a single and a double and threw four strikeouts in relief. Rian Jock added three hits, and Lindsy Chatland had two.
The Eagles took advantage of the Hornets' 13 errors.
"It was very much an error-plagued game for Plattsburgh," Hornets coach Vicki McMillan said. "A lot of throwing, a lot of fielding errors. Obviously, we have that category to work on. If we could have cut down the errors even in half, it would've been a closer game.
"Beekmantown had a solid effort all the way around. McGovern looked good on the mound."
Hannah Emery had two doubles and two RBI for Plattsburgh High, and Dana Curle hit four singles. Kelly Wehrenberg and Alicia Stanton had two hits apiece. Jen Menard struck out three.
