CHAZY LANDING — William M. Sweet, 68, of 1713 Lake Shore Road, died early Sunday morning, January 9, 2000, at his home.
He was born in Plattsburgh on May 21, 1931, the son of Clinton W. and Helen A. (Morris) Sweet Sr.
Mr. Sweet was a charter member of the Chazy Lions Club, a member of the Telephone Pioneers, and after retiring, he was caretaker for the Ladd Cemetery at Chazy Landing. He spent his life living on and enjoying Lake Champlain.
Mr. Sweet was a Korean War Army veteran. Following the war, he married the former Rosemary Wiggin in Keeseville in 1953. Mr. Sweet worked as a lineman/installer/technician for the new York Telephone Co. from 1955 until 1991 when he retired.
Survivors include his wife Rosemary; two sons, William J. Sweet of Chazy Landing and Thomas Wiggin Sweet and his wife Mary Jo of Chazy Landing; two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Robin) Brockway of Massena and Stacy Sweet of Oklahoma City, OK; his mother, Mrs. Clinton Sweet of Chazy Landing; two brothers, Clinton W. Sweet Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada and David M. Sweet and his wife Barbara of Chazy Landing; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home.
Private funeral services will be held for the family.
Graveside services will be held at a later date at the Ladd Cemetery in Chazy.
Donations may be made to Rosemary Sweet for the care of the Ladd Cemetery.
