Albion — Allen W. Plymale, resident of Dannemora from 1981 to 1984, died of a heart attack here Dec. 23, 1999.
He was a teacher at Clinton Main Correctional Facility from 1981 to 1984. Plymale then moved to Beacon. He was Director of Volunteer Services at Fishkill CF and, after 1986, Orleans Correctional Facility in Albion.
He retired from the NYS Department of Correctional Services in 1995. After retiring he was the Supervising Case Manager for the Action for A Better Community AIDS program in Rochester. More recently Plymale was a counselor at the Iroquois Job Corps in Medina.
He was an active member of the Baha'i Faith. He also worked for the Boy Scouts of America, and was the president of the board of the Mental Health Association of Orleans County. He was also instrumental in founding the Martin Luther King Scholarship Committee there.
Plymale was born in Endicott in 1942 and grew up in Vestal. He started his career as an educator and founded and operated a nursery school and kindergarten from 1974-1980 in Endicott with his wife Barbara Martin Plymale.
In addition to his wife he is survived by eight children and five grandchildren.
