Plattsburgh — Alice M. (Coste) Schurr, 90, formerly of St. John's Place, died Monday, March 6, 2000, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.
She was born in Saranac Lake on Sept. 24, 1909, daughter of Howard and Katherine (Keese) Melius.
Alice was a 1936 graduate of the Champlain Valley School of Nursing. She later served that institution as an instructor. She was the head nurse of the Emergency Room at Champlain Valley Hospital and later at CVPH Medical Center. Alice was a member of the Champlain Valley School of Nursing Alumni and was a member of St. John's parish in Plattsburgh. She was a member of the Monday Bridge Club.
Alice is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Sue Ellen Coste of Plattsburgh; a daughter, Caroline Sener of Mountain Home, Idaho; a sister, Evelyn Bickford of Plattsburgh; four grandchildren, Jay, Debbie, Kris and Jackie; a great-grandson, Brad; and several nieces and nephews.
Her husbands, Francis Henry Coste and J.F. Bothwell Schurr and a brother, Myron Melius, died previously.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 9 a.m. from St. John's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be later in the year in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Plattsburgh.
