ROTTERDAM — Woodrow K. 'Woody' Griffith, 83, of Kingsway Manor, passed away peacefully at his home on July 22, 2000. Born December 4, 1916, in Grand Isle, Vt., he was a son of the late George E. and Blanche Demers Griffith. Mr. Griffith married the former Elizabeth Wales, who passed away in 1988.
Educated in Chazy, N.Y., he graduated from Chazy Central School. He came to Rotterdam in 1946 and was employed by General Electric for 37 years as a management employee and material procurement specialist. He retired in December 1978.
Mr. Griffith was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, European Theater, and participated in the Normandy invasion. He was a member of the VFW Post 1895, Rotterdam.
In his lifetime, Mr. Griffith was chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals of Rotterdam and a member of the town board since 1964; member and treasurer of the Democratic Party of Rotterdam; member of the Board of Directors of the Democratic Club; and member of the Schenectady County Democratic Committee. He was also a member and purchasing agent for the Carmen Little League and a former team member and treasurer of the Rotterdam Babe Ruth League. An avid bowler, he was a former member and president of the Lutheran Bowling League and former member and president of the Motor Generation Bowling League.
