PLATTSBURGH — William H. Day, 95, of Cliff Haven, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at CVPH Medical Center.
He was born in Plattsburgh on Sept. 15, 1905, the son of E. Stanton and Chastine (Lobdell) Day.
He married Ruth Hartmire of Harrisburg, Pa., who died in 1972.
Bill graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1924 and Penn State in 1930. He was a field representative and supervisor for GMAC in the Albany area and later in Wilkes Barre, Pa., and then in Detroit. He retired in 1945 to work at Merchants Bank in Plattsburgh, which became State Bank of Albany, then became Northstar, from which he retired in 1970 and then worked at the family business, Day Brothers.
Bill was a member of the Plattsburgh United Methodist Church, the Optimist Club, where he was a charter member and past president, the Bluff Point Golf Club, a former board member and past president of the YMCA, past treasurer and director of Beartown Ski Slope, past treasurer of the Clinton County Fair, past treasurer of the Humane Society and past president and board member of the Vilas Home.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Willis "Bill" and Carole Day of Durham, N.C.; one brother, Norman Day of Plattsburgh; two grandchildren, Kimberly Ryan and her husband Kevin of Randolph, N.J., William K. Day and his wife Deirdre of Cary, N.C.; four great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Wallace "Wally" Day and his wife Monica of Plattsburgh; one great-niece and one great-nephew.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be at a later date in the Riverside Cemetery in Plattsburgh.
