Plattsburgh — William Edward Peek Sr., 75, of Haynes Road in Plattsburgh, passed away Feb. 19, 2001, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Bill was born on June 16, 1925, in the Town of Glenville, Scotia, the son of Edward and Rosetta Peek.
He was educated in the Rotterdam Junction School System. He worked at the General Electric Company in Schenectady before moving to Ticonderoga Pulp and Paper Co. and E.J. Monroe Co. In 1952, Bill moved his family to the Plattsburgh area where he worked for E.J. Monroe for 14 years. In the early 1960's, Bill went to work at Aird Dorrance, Inc. in Morrisonville until his retirement in 1987.
Bill was actively involved in the community as a volunteer fireman (charter member) for the Town of Beekmantown Fire Dept., the Beekmantown Youth Commission as director and coach, in town politics as an assessor and councilman, and in the United Methodist Church in Plattsburgh.
William is survived by his wife of 55 years, Hattie (Quinn); two sons, William E. Peek Jr. and his wife Anna of Niskayna, N.Y., and Jeffrey L. Peek and his wife Linda of South Glenns Falls; four daughters, Diane L. Sutliff and her husband Walter of Hudson Falls, Nancy A. Bisso and her husband Richard of Plattsburgh, Debra L. Sorrell and her husband Thomas of Plattsburgh and Donna M. Fessette and her husband Glenn of Plattsburgh; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was predeceased by his parents and a sister.
At Bill's request there will be no calling hours.
Memorial donations may be made to the Beekmantown Volunteer Fire Dept., Box 321, West Chazy, NY 12992 and/or Hospice of the North Country, 386 Rugar St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
A memorial service will be held at the First Methodist Church on Beekman Street in Plattsburgh on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at 11 a.m.
The R.W. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
