WILLISTON, Vt. — Leslie, William (Bill) Lockwood, 52, died on Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at the Vermont Respite House, Williston, Vt.
He was born on Jan. 12, 1950, the son of John and Katharine (Allen) Leslie. Bill grew up and attended schools in Ramsey, N.J.
He graduated from Cornell University in 1975. He was a member of the Cornell Polo team for four years and was team captain in 71 - 72.
During his life time he trained polo ponies, played for and managed several polo clubs. He was accepted into membership of the American Society of Equine Appraisers in 1996. Recently he was self employed as an Equine Dentist. His home base was In La Quinta, Calif.
Bill was determined to have quality of life and spent this past summer visiting family and friends.
He also traveled to Scotland and Peru. He will be remembered most for his courage, wonderful smile, his love of all creatures great and small and his generous, caring heart for children of all ages.
Bill will be greatly missed by his parents, John and Katharine Leslie of Hanover, N.H.; by his brothers, Dr. Allen Leslie and wife, Mimi of Christiana, Pa., and David Leslie and wife, Fern of Hinsdale, Mass.; By his sisters, Mary Hanscom and husband, Dave of Park City, Utah, Gail Haubrich and husband, Peter of Wilder, Vt., Anne Turek and husband, Charlie of Westport, N.Y., Julie Kibbeand husband, Rob of Morristown, N.J., and Jane Jackson and husband, Ed of East Ryegate, Vt.; by 24 nieces and nephews; two great- nephews; and many wonderful and supportive aunts, uncles and cousins. Special Friends, Tracy Healy of Spokane, Wis., Steve and Michelle Whight of Greenwich, N.Y., Mark and Terri Crause of Lathrop, Calif., and his devoted dogs, Kate and Woops.
