Port Henry — William H. Carpenter, 79, of Spring Street in Port Henry, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt.
He was born at Port Henry, N.Y., on Feb. 2, 1923, the son of Wilford and Florence (Lasher) Carpenter.
He was district manager for Pyrofax Gas Co., Port Henry.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, where he was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action against the enemy.
He was a member of the Board of Trustees, Village of Port Henry for many years and a long time member of the Port Henry Fire Department.
His wife, Frances (Sweet) Carpenter, died Aug. 8, 2000.
He is survived by his son, John E. Carpenter and his daughter, Judith C. Hundley, both of Vienna, Va.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arthur Carpenter of Westport, N.Y., and Clifford Carpenter of Albany, N.Y.
Calling hours for family and friends will be held Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home, Port Henry, N.Y. Private funeral services will be conducted Friday. Burial will be in St. Patrick
