Peru — William H. Walker, 87, of the Calkins Road, Peru, entered into eternal rest, Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at the Rome Memorial Hospital in Rome, N.Y.
He was born in Peru, March 19, 1915, the son of Andrew and Eva (Weaver) Walker.
He was a graduate of Keeseville High School and was an accomplished member of their track team.
Mr. Walker served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. He served in all five campaigns during World War II.
He married the former Anna Mae LaRose, Nov. 26, 1946, in the Immaculate Conception Church in Keeseville. She predeceased him Nov. 24, 1998.
He was also predeceased by his five brothers, George, Oscar, Victor, James and Ernest.
Bill was a retired federal employee. He worked as a flight attendant at the Plattsburgh Air Force Base and was a local farmer. He enjoyed hunting and trapping.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Thomas Stephen and Princess Walker of Maputo, Africa; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Walker and Joe Russ of St. Albans, Vt., Donna and Steve Sislo of Rome; one granddaughter, Bronwyn Walker of Florida; two grandsons, Jordan and Justin Sislo, both of Rome; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church in Keeseville with Monsignor Leeward Poissant, pastor, celebrating. Burial will be in the spring in the parish cemetery.
