MINEVILLE, NY — Albano Ribeiro, 81, formerly of Mineville, died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at The Community Nursing Home, Potsdam, N.Y.
He was born on April 15, 1921, in Pautkette, R.I., the son of Jose J. and Dolorosa (Ceu) Ribeiro.
Albano was a millwright at Republic Steel Corp. in Mineville for 30 years. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the 15th Army Air Force.
He was a life member of the Mineville Post 5802 Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the fourth degree Knights of Columbus, Ticonderoga and a third degree member of Council 384 Knights of Columbus, Port Henry.
He is survived by, his wife of 59 years, Loraine (Forgette) Ribeiro; daughter Diane and her husband Richard Gross and their children, Nancy and Laura Gross, Dana and Andy Gibson and Rebecca Gross, all of Rochester, N.Y.; daughter, Celeste and her husband Max Hall and their children, Michael and Richard LaFountain, Port Charlotte, Fla.; daughter, Laureen and her husband Francis Cappello and their children, Francis Cappello III and Patrick Cappello, Potsdam, N.Y.; son, David and his wife Corinne Ribeiro; son, Shawn Ribeiro, Norwood, N.Y.; sisters, A. Dozinda Saraeva and Noemia de Paiva; brother, Alcino Ribeiro.
He was predeceased by his son, Joseph Ribeiro; his sister, Rosa Carvalho; and his brother, Francisco Ribeiro.
Calling hours will be held Friday, March 21, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home, Port Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2003, at the Church of All Saints, Mineville, N.Y., with Rev. Michael Toth, officiating. Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence County, N.Y.
