Altona — Mr. Andrew S. Young, 80, of Forge Street, Altona, passed away Friday, March 28, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center.
He was born in Altona, N.Y., on Sept. 7, 1922, the son of George and Ellen (Jordon) Young.
Andrew was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of American Legion Post 767 in Champlain, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Great Chazy River Veterans Memorial Post 1418, the Knights of Columbus Council 6136 of Mooers, a former member of the Altona Fire Department from 1951-1984 and Holy Angels Church in Altona. He enjoyed bowling, golf, hunting, fishing and gardening. Andrew retired as a welder from Harris Graphics in 1985.
He was predeceased by his parents, George and Ellen Young; and his brothers, Alfred and Donald Young.
Andrew is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen (McLaughlin) Young of Altona; a son, Christopher Young and his wife Kathryn of Rouses Point, N.Y.; a daughter, Diana Clark and her husband Wayne of Palm Dale, Calif.; a brother, Bernard Young and his wife Shirley of Massachusetts; a sister, Palmina Boyd and her husband Robert of Altona; his grandsons, Eric Young and his wife Kimberly, Jason Clark, Devon Clark and his wife Lisa; a granddaughter, Kerry Young; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Gerald Sayah of Altona.
Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Altona. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Angels Church, Altona. Interment with full military honors will be held at a later date at Holy Angel's Cemetery.
Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1418 and the American Legion Post 767 are asked to meet Monday at 7 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home for services.
Members of the Knights of Columbus Council 6136 are asked to meet Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home for services.
Friends wishing may make donations to Emergency Squad at the Altona Fire Department.
