LAKE PLACID —William Harrison Bill Lawrence, 76, formerly of Lake Placid and a resident of Apalachin, died at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Nicholas Ezzo, on Easter Sunday morning, April 20, 2003.
Bill was born in Wilmington on July 1, 1926, the son of William and Florence (Sanders) Lawrence. He was a graduate of Lake Placid High School, class of 1945, and then served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946. Bill retired from the U.S. Post Office in Lake Placid in 1980.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janice (Ridion) Lawrence; three daughters and two sons and their spouses, Cathy Ann Ezzo and her husband, Nicholas, of Vestal, Susan Emily Curtis and her husband, Chris, of Estero, Fla., Joan Elizabeth Meyers and her husband, David, of Bluff City, Tenn., William Hugh Lawrence and his wife, Jean, of Bethal, Ohio, and Robert James Lawrence and his wife, Karen, of Fort Meyers, Fla. He is also survived by one brother, Gordon, of Camillus, and two sisters, Mable of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Martha of Bluff City, Tenn. Bill had five grandchildren, Christina Hitchcock, Nichole Ezzo, Kayla Lawrence, Andrew Meyers and Tracy Griffin, and one great-granddaughter, Maura Jane Grifin. Two brothers, Irving and Jasper Lawrence, and two sisters, Jennie and Phoebe, all died earlier.
Bill will be sadly missed by his family and all of his friends. He was a member of the Lake Placid American Legion Post 326, the Lake Placid Lions Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. There will an American Legion Prayer Service 7:30 Wednesday. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid with the Rev. Mark Demers, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the North Elba Cemetery.
