KEENE — Alfred Burt Smith, 67, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at his home with his family by his side.
He was born in Elizabethtown on May 28, 1937, the son of Orvil and Rena Smith.
Burt was an avid hunter, fisherman and camper. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and belonged to the American Legion in Keene, Lake Placid and AuSable Forks. He was also a member of the Keene Valley Rod and Gun Club and was a bobsledder in his younger years.
He is survived by his four children and their spouses, Eunice and Michael Graham of Saratoga, Penny and John Piper of Saranac Lake, Burton Smith of Wilmington, and Jackie and Billy Mahoney Jr. of Buffalo; two brothers and sisters, Leroy Smith of Keene, Orvil R. Smith Jr. of Keene, Elaine Buxton of Keene Valley, Joann Bruce of Upper Jay; five grandchildren, Joseph Lawrence, Aspen Graham, Mike and Desiree Pelkey, Caleb Smith; and several nieces and nephews and his beloved pets, Half Pint and Firecracker.
Burt was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Ralph and Henry Smith and one sister, Evelyn LeClair.
No calling hours will be held. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 1 p.m. at W.M. Marvins Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A reception will follow at Baxter Mountain Tavern in Keene.
