CADYVILLE -- Alton Hunter Wolfgang of Cadyville died on Dec. 17, 2005, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
He was born in Albany on Jan. 17, 1927, and graduated from Nott Terrace High School in 1944. Just after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until 1946. Al worked for the Department of Corrections for 37 years and also enjoyed success in his own carpentry business for many years.
He was active throughout the community in a variety of areas. As a long-standing member of the Cadyville Fire Department, he served as secretary, treasurer and also as a commissioner. Al was also a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus (Council #6067). Besides the local community, he served as state secretary, trustee and treasurer of Chapter 130 for the Council #82 Retirees. He was also a member of American Legion Post 1619 and VFW Post 125.
Al was an active communicant of St. James Church in Cadyville.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean Brown Wolfgang; his son, Erich, and his wife, Deborah, and grandson, Jason; also by his daughter Kristine and her husband, William Zedaker. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Alta (Henry) Wolfgang and his two sisters, Dorothy Toot and Joan Dorwaldt.
Calling hours will be Tuesday at Brown's Funeral Home in Cadyville from 5 to 8 p.m. The Knights of Columbus will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral will be from St. James Church in Cadyville on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
