Chateaugay — William C. Twaddle, 85, of the LaCount Road, Chateaugay, died Feb. 3, 2005, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center, Malone, N.Y.
Born in North Burke, N.Y., on Sept. 12, 1919, he was the son of William and Carrie (Wilson) Twaddle.
He was married to Grace Lunderman on June 30, 1940, in Ledyard, N.Y., by Rev. V.A. Martin. She predeceased him on Sept. 30, 2002.
Mr. Twaddle is survived by a daughter, Sharon Nemier of Chateaugay, N.Y.; a niece, Jo Ellen Saumier Selkirk of Chateaugay, N.Y.; four grandsons, William Nemier and his wife Melissa of Burke, N.Y., Matthew Nemier and his companion Erica Trombley of Chateaugay, N.Y., Douglas Nemier and his wife Debbie of Chateaugay, N.Y., and Jack Nemier and his wife Judy of Vorheesville, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Patsy Nemier of Tampa, Fla.; six great-grandchildren, Megan, Kelsey, Nicolas, Brody, Anna and Max Nemier.
Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his parents; a son in infancy, William Frank Twaddle; two brothers, Robert and Frances Twaddle; and two sisters, Marian Twaddle and Genevieve Saumier.
Mr. Twaddle graduated from Chateaugay High School in 1935 and Cornell University in 1939. He taught vocational agriculture at Brier Hill and Morrisontown, N.Y. He farmed the home farm in Burke for 18 years and after selling the farm in 1963, he operated the Surge Dairy Equipment business in Chateaugay for 21 years, covering all of Franklin County and the towns of Clinton and Ellenburg in Clinton County.
He was a member of Brier Hill, Morristown and Chateaugay Volunteer Fire Departments for a combined total of 36 years in the fire service. He served as chief of the Brier Hill and Chateaugay Fire Departments and as assistant chief in Chateaugay. Mr. Twaddle was also a member of the Firemen
