Mineville, N.Y. — Yolanda Lahtinen, 89, died Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at the Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh, N.Y.
She was born March 19, 1916, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., to Stephano and Mary Teresa (DiMarco) DeSimone. She raised her family in the Town of Moriah and retired from the Moriah Central School where she worked in the food service department.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Lahtinen (1961); her daughter, Patricia (Lahtinen) Dorazio (2002); her granddaughter, Melissa (Lahtinen) Penfield (1999); her brothers, Antonio, George, John and Alfred; and her sisters, Argie DeSimone, Lillian Abbott and Rena Martin.
She is survived by two daughters, Joanne Lahtinen of Gouverneur and Linda (Thomas) Slattery of Mineville; two sons, John (Eleanor) Lahtinen of Plattsburgh and James (Maureen) Lahtinen of Pittsford; her brother, Thomas (Barbara) DeSimone of Keeseville; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be private at the convenience of the family. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 18, at 11 a.m. from the Church of All Saints in Mineville.
The Harland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, Yolanda may be remembered by a contribution in her name to the charity of one's choice.
