WESTPORT — William George Cline, 62, of 246 Sherman Road, died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Amsterdam, N.Y., Feb. 28, 1943, the son of William Gleed and Nana May (Riley) Cline.
He was a member of the National Guard and belonged to a Masonic Lodge in Amsterdam, N.Y. He was an avid horseman, a member of the Morgan Horse Association and competed in many events at the Westport Fair, winning many blue and champion ribbons. He was a 4-H leader. He was a professional prankster who enjoyed hunting and fishing and most especially spending time with his family and driving his horse, Gidget.
He was retired from the ARC after working there for 20 years as a residential counselor.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Munson) Shappy, whom he married Feb. 5, 2005; two sons, Gerald and wife Vicki Cline and Todd Cline and his daughter and son-in-law, Colleen and Kevin Denton, all of Lewis; grandchildren, Mark and Heather Denton of Lewis, Rachael and Roger Cline of Moriah and Matthew Legacy of Westport; stepchildren, Floyd and Joanne Shappy and Juanita and Randy Fleming; stepgrandchildren, Brittany, David Brandon Fleming, Jack and Tristan Shappy, Melody, Daisy, Maggie and Veronica Byers; one great-grandchild, Alexis Maria Moore; two sisters, Regina and Bob Henning of DeBary, Fla., and Cindy and Dave Smith of Fonda, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews; and stepbrothers and sisters-in-law.
Calling hours will be held Sunday. Aug. 28, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Marvin's Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 29, at 11 a.m. at the Lewis Church.
