MOOERS FORKS — Amasa W. Moore, 83, of the McDonald Road, Mooers Forks, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh, N.Y.
Born in Ellenburg Center, N.Y., on Feb. 19, 1922, he was the son of Daniel and Flossia (Ormsbee) Moore.
He was married to Jane Snide on April 1, 1949, in the Methodist Parsonage in Ellenburg Depot.
Mr. Moore is survived by his wife of 56 years; three children, Rev. Marion M. Moore-Colgan and her husband Mark Colgan of Poultney, Vt., Susan J. Moore of Chazy Landing, N.Y., and Charles A. Moore and his wife Kristen of Mooers Forks, N.Y.; a grandson, Daniel M. Colgan.
He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Sallie Ann Moore; and a son, George Frank Moore.
Mr. Moore assisted his father with the operation of the family farm after high school. He owned and operated Moore's Sanitation Service from 1951 until the time of his death. His son Charles joined him in the business in 1984. He was also a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp. He was a euclid operator in construction, drilled wells and was involved in the cedar oil business for many years. He enjoyed playing guitar with a local band. In his early years, Mr. Moore attended the Ellenburg Center United Methodist Church. He and his wife supported the Mooers Forks United Methodist Church.
Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Sunday, Jan. 22, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, in the Chateaugay Funeral Home with his daughter, the Rev. Marion M. Moore-Colgan, officiating.
All are invited to a luncheon at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Community Center in Ellenburg Corners.
Spring burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Ellenburg Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society for research.
