SAHUARITA, Ariz. — Adelaide Miner Pletcher, age 87, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at Sugars II Assisted Living Home, Sahuarita, Ariz. Born March 11, 1918, in Dunkirk, N.Y., to Harley Guy and Mary (Gould) Miner.
Preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Survived by James D. Pletcher, her devoted husband of 63 years; daughters Susan Ochs (Jerome) of Green Valley, Ariz., Jane Pletcher (Jack Cooley), Columbus, Ohio, and grandson Matthew J. Ochs, Denver, Colo.
Adelaide was a graduate of Dunkirk, N.Y., High School and the National College of Education, Evanston, Ill. She worked for many years as a pre-school and kindergarten teacher in the Lockport, N.Y., school system; later served as a teacher/administrator with the Head Start Program in Plattsburgh, N.Y.
After moving to Green Valley, Ariz., with her husband Jim in 1976, she continued to use her unique talents and insights into child development as a volunteer with Los Ninos del Valle Preschool, always incorporating the sources of so much joy in her own life — art, music, the written word and the power of kindness. Adelaide's wit, wisdom and caring ways are her everlasting legacy.
There will be no memorial service.
