SARANAC LAKE — Alfred G. Moody, 83, of 20 Crossfield Avenue, Saranac Lake, died Sunday, May 21, 2006, at Uihlein Mercy Center, Lake Placid, N.Y.
Born in Saranac Lake, N.Y., on Feb. 15, 1923, he was the son of William Henry and Rose (Facto) Moody.
He was the great-great-grandson of Jacob Moody, one of the first settlers of Saranac Lake.
Al was a life long resident of Saranac Lake and was a veteran of World War II, proudly serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1944 to 1945 in Guam.
In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending lots of time at his camp on Miller Pond. He also loved and enjoyed caring for the family dog, Ruby. He worked for the New York State Department of Corrections as an industrial training supervisor, retiring in 1983.
He is survived by his wife, the former Rita Corinne Woodruff whom he married Sept. 22, 1942; two sons, Rodney Moody and his wife Donna of Chazy Lake, N.Y., and Al Moody and his wife Mary Lou of Saranac Lake; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Richard McCormick of Saranac Lake, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Henry Moody; his mother, Rose Facto Moody; his daughter, Donna (Moody) McCormick; his sister, Isabel Porter and his brothers, William, Henry and Ross Moody.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 from 7 to 9 p.m. A bible vigil will be held Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will take place Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at 11:15 A.M. at St. Bernard's Church., with Father Jeffrey Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
Friends wishing to remember Al may make memorial contributions to Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home.
