WILMINGTON — Alan E. Mendelsohn, age 81, died Friday, June 16, 2006, at the Adirondack Medical Center, Saranac Lake, N.Y., after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 6, 1924, in New York City and came to Wilmington in 1972.
Entrepreneur, business consultant, retired manufacturing executive, Alan worked with the Economical Developmental Co. of Essex County, the Small Business Administration, was a founder and active member of SCORE in Essex and he owned and operated the Whiteface Market in Wilmington for 10 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian of Wilmington; his sons, Jere (Mary) Mendelsohn of Glendale, Calif., Peter (Becki) Mendelsohn of Lake Placid; daughter Karen Pelland of Troy; and his brother, Bert Mendelsohn of San Diego, Calif. He is also survived by seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be private with a memorial service planned for a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to High Peaks Hospice, Saranac Lake, N.Y., or Wilmington Fire and Rescue, Wilmington, N.Y.
When all is said and done, he was one heck of a man!
