PLATTSBURGH — Albert Bloom Skarsten, 85, of West Court Street, died on Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at his daughter's home surrounded by his family.
He was born in west New York, N.Y., on Aug. 1, 1920, son of Olena and Andrew Skarsten, both from Norway.
Albert was a navigator in the US Air Force for 27 years, managed Walker Enterprise in Plattsburgh and worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. In his retirement he found his favorite career, a full-time grandfather.
Albert married Rita Phillips on Aug. 2, 1947, and was a devoted and loving husband for 57 years.
Albert is survived by four children, Kathryn S. Meyer and her husband Robert Meyer, Susan Quenville and her husband Thomas Quenville, Douglas Skarsten and Steven Skarsten; and nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Joshua, Justin and Jeffrey Meyer, Alison, Matthew, and David Quenville, Douglas Jr. and Albert Skarsten; and one great-grandson, Simon Albert Meyer.
Funeral services will be private.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for all the kind thoughts, prayers and deeds that Albert received during his final months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the North Country.
