CHURUBUSCO — Amos W. LaClair, 87, of Merchia Road, Churubusco, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, at Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt.
Born in Rhode Island on Sept. 21, 1918, he was the son of Wilfred and Cora (Trembley) LaClair.
He was married to Pearl Berry on Sept. 20, 1940, in St. Leo's Church, Leominster, Mass. She predeceased him July 8, 1987.
Mr. LaClair is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Corrinne and Mark Snyder of Plantersville, Texas, Judy Morehouse of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Eva and Gary Boileau of Burke, N.Y.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Patricia LaClair of Pine, Idaho, Amos and Jenny LaClair of Churubusco, N.Y.; a daughter-in-law, Helen LaClair of Lake Luzerne; 22 grandchildren; 18 great - grandchildren; one great - great - grandchild; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his parents; two sons, Rodney and Wilfred "Billy" LaClair; eight sisters, Beatrice Otis, Agnes Durkee, Delia Powers, Alphonsene Murray, Laura Defayette, Diana Bilow, Elizabeth Boyea, Eva Reynolds; and two brothers, John and Pierre LaClair.
Mr. LaClair was involved with the Civil Service Corp in the 1930s. He was a farmer and construction laborer with the Laborer Union in Plattsburgh. He enjoyed hunting and traveling.
Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. to noon with a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 1 p.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Churubusco.
Burial will take place at Immaculate Heart Cemetery, Churubusco.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory maybe made to Churubusco Fire & Rescue or Hospice of the North Country.
Arrangements are through the Chateaugay Funeral Home.
