PORT HENRY — Wyona E. (Hendrix) Evens, 93, of Lakeview Avenue, Port Henry, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006, at her residence, the Hendrix Farm where she was also born to Rollin and Edna Hendrix on Sept. 9, 1913.
A lifelong resident of Port Henry, she was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. Wyona was also a long-time farm owner and operator with her family and known to all as the "donut" lady.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ralph A. Evens Sr. whom she married Jan. 17, 1933, at the Presbyterian Church in Glens Falls, N.Y. Mr. Evens died July 28, 1970, at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital. Mrs. Evens was also predeceased by one son, Gerald R. Evens Sr.; two grandsons, Gerald R. Evens Jr. and Timothy A. Evens; three sons-in-law, John Czarnecki, Walter Czarnecki and Truman Eaton; and one brother, Charles Hendrix.
Survivors include her sister, Alberta Hendrix Blake of Hudson Falls, N.Y.; children, Ralph A. Evens Jr. and his wife Cecile of Essex, N.Y., Moorie A. Eaton of Wallingford, Vt., Joan M. Czarnecki of Ira, Vt., Earl L. Evens of Port Henry, N.Y., Lawrence S. Evens Sr. and his wife Doris of Moriah, N.Y., John F. Evens and his fiancee Darlene Budwick of Port Henry, N.Y., George A. Evens Sr. and his wife Sally of Moriah, N.Y., Ann M. Dushane and her husband Howard of Crown Point, N.Y., Thomas R. Evens Sr. and his wife Donna of Moriah, N.Y.; daughter-in-law, Rose Evens of Peru, N.Y.; 38 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Those who wish to celebrate Wyona's life with her family may do so Thursday, Sept. 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home, Main Street, Port Henry N.Y.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Sept. 15, 11 a.m. at the Moriah Methodist Church with committal immediately following at the Union Cemetery, Port Henry N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Moriah Ambulance Squad.
