PERU — Alice M. Wright, 84, of the CVPH Skilled Nursing Facility and formerly of McGarr Road, Peru, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006, at the CVPH Medical Center.
She was born in Plattsburgh on Nov. 29, 1921, the daughter of Dana B. and Lydia Melissa (Hulin) Hanks.
Mrs. Wright was a member of the The First Baptist Church of Plattsburgh. Alice was an "ALTRUIST" in spirit, who truly cared for others. Alice graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1938, she then attended Cortland State College where she graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science in physical education in 1945. She was a member of KAPPA DELTA PI Honor Society. Mrs. Wright taught first at Peru Central School in 1945 and later worked as a case worker for the Clinton County Welfare Department. She then taught physical education at the Campus School at Plattsburgh State University, Beekmantown Central, Plattsburgh State University and St. John's Academy.
She married Kenneth W. Wright on May 29, 1946, in Mechanicville, N.Y., at the First Baptist Church, a church that was designed and built by Alice's grandfather.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Melissa and David Goodrich of Peru, Simone and Dennis Noud of Saratoga Springs and Marguerite Kim Wright of Peru; three grandchildren, Mary Aliss Gast and her husband Michael of Greenfield Center, N.Y., and David Alan Goodrich of Massachusetts; and her closest friend, Simone Johnson of Albany, Ga. Also several loving nieces, nephews, four brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
The family will ever be grateful for the many loving caregivers at CVPH Skilled Nursing Facility.
Her sister, Bessie Hendrix died earlier.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in the Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, N.Y.
