NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. — William F. Stevenson, 77, of 21 Sherrill Lane, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 1, 1929 in Troy a son of William A. and Alice Bentley Stevenson.
He graduated from Chateaugay High School and served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1952.
On July 27, 1954, he married Patricia LaFontaine at St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora.
Mr. Stevenson worked for the John Hancock Life Insurance Company for 32 years, retiring in 1989. He was currently a bus driver for the New Hartford School District which he greatly enjoyed. He also enjoyed golfing and lawn work.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church and Amicable Lodge 664 Free and Accepted Masons, which he served as chaplain.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters and a son-in-law, Gail Stevenson of Plattsburgh and Karen and Kevin Allen of Arvada, Colo.; a son and daughter-in-law, William G. and Barbara Stevenson of Cicero; three grandchildren, Shawn Genereaux and Rebecca and Benjamin Stevenson; and two great-grandchildren, Brianna and Ayden Genereaux. He also leaves two sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Ross Anderson of Quebec, Canada and Mary and William Jones of Chateaugay; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Jack Stevenson; and a step-brother, Robert Sprague.
The funeral will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford with the Rev. Joseph Zareski officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Amicable Lodge will conduct the Masonic ritualistic service Thursday at 6:45 p.m.
Friends may consider the American Heart Association in his memory.
