PLATTSBURGH - Winifred M. "Wyn" Martin, 73, of River Bend Drive, Plattsburgh, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2007, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh with her family by her side
She was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Dec. 29, 1933, the daughter of Harlan and Doris (Gregory) Carter.
Wyn graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1951, and began her outside work career as a switchboard operator at FW Myers in Rouses Point, N.Y. Upon relocation with her family she provided bookkeeping services to a variety of companies. Her final place of employment was with Champlain Valley Veterinary Services. Wyn was a very creative soul with the ability to make a wide variety of crafts. She loved to sew, knit, cross-stitch and do needle point. She became known to her family and friends as a great bear creator and gave herself the label on all her projects as "Made with love by Winsome creations". She provided her family with beautiful needlework and cross-stitch pictures which will be treasured forever. Wyn was a matron with the Order of the Eastern Star for many years. She also enjoyed participating in her high school reunion committee and attended numerous Plattsburgh High School reunions.
Wyn is survived by her husband of 49 years, Walter S. Martin; and her three children, Marc Martin, and his wife Barb of Ohio, Paul Martin and his wife Cassandra of Hudson Falls, and a daughter, Julia Whelden, who resided with her. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren who include, Kristi, Kasey, Hillary, Ethan, Keith, Amber, Brian and Sarah and especially enjoyed her great-grandchildren, Kenadie Fish and Michael O'Neil. Her traditions and home-made presents will especially be missed by her grandchildren who will hold her in their hearts forever.
A celebration of Wyn's life will be held today, July 24, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home Inc., 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
