- Cortland lived up to its billing as the most-penalized team in the SUNYAC, taking nine penalties for 29 minutes in Friday’s 4-1 loss to Plattsburgh. The Cardinals went 2-for-6 on the power play. The Red Dragons had just one power play in the game.
- Kevin Emmerling, who recorded a goal and an assist, now has a team-high 12 goals this season. He’s fifth among Division III freshmen with 1.10 points per game.
- Dillan Fox’s points streak came to an end Friday at eight games. The freshman forward failed to earn a point for the first time since Jan. 5.
- Senior forward Jared Docking received the 2013 Chartwells Fan Favorite Award before the game.
Alex Brenton on what coach Bob Emery said during a second-period timeout: “He gave it to us. He let us know what was what, and I feel like after that we came back and we answered.”
Emery: “I thought we controlled the play down deep behind their goal line for the most part all night. We didn’t have a lot to show for it. We gotta get a little dirtier and play a little more tough in the paint, getting to some rebounds in the offensive end.”
Brenton on what Plattsburgh needs to do against Oswego: “We’ve just got to outwork and outsacrifice them. We gotta block shots. We gotta take the man. We just gotta play our (butts) off, for lack of a better word.”

- Plattsburgh State sophomore Alex Jensen had gone 14 games without a goal until he got a short-handed marker in Friday’s third period. The goal gave the
Cardinals a 4-1 lead over Geneseo, and they went on to win 6-1. Jensen, who now has five goals on the season, ended a drought that dated back to November.
- Jensen’s goal was Plattsburgh’s seventh short-handed goal of the season, which is tied for second in Division III. When they take a penalty, the Cardinals score almost as often as their opponents do — they have given up just eight power-play goals.
- Dillan Fox’s power-play marker in the third period was his fifth goal in the last four games. The freshman forward is tied for fourth on the team with 14 points, and 10 of those have come in the past seven games. He has seven goals and seven assists.
Plattsburgh freshman Kevin Emmerling: “We knew going into the game it was a huge game — four games left; we’re fighting for the top two spots. They’re a good team. They beat us the first game, and we knew we wanted a little revenge there. And we just went out there and played hard and got the win.”
Emmerling: “As important as the start is, if we don’t finish it off, it doesn’t even matter. So just getting the good start and carrying the momentum all the way through the game is huge.”
Plattsburgh coach Bob Emery: “We got some good speed tonight through the neutral zone, which was a goal for us. I thought we did that really well, and I thought we got pucks to the net. I thought we did a good job getting to rebounds at times.”
